FRIDAY, April 2 Good Friday

John 18:1-19:42. "Crucify him!"...So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them.

On this day God is speaking to you and me through the cross of Christ, showing us what we are like.

Have I ever had in my heart any of the pride of position that was in the hearts of the high priests? Have I ever washed my hands of some responsibility, as did Pilate? Have I partaken of the brutality of the Roman soldiers by taking part in a cruel conversation? Have I been a little dishonest like the politicians or fickle like the mob? Have I injured an innocent person either directly or indirectly? Or have I ever stood by while others were being hurt physically or slandered--and done nothing?

Let us not miss the meaning of this day by blaming it on ancient figures and failing to see that it is our human nature that stands at the foot of the cross. (1944)

Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon thee?
Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone thee.
'Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied thee: I crucified thee.

"and remember tham no more"

Written by Elaine Doan,

I am grateful that I don't have to be perfect before I can come into His presence. I remember, when my mother was in her later years, confessing to her what I thought was some great thing I had done that I thouhgt had hurt her.
She said, "I don't remember anything like that". I think God is like that.

Written by Steve Doutt,

Thank you Elaine. I'm captured by the phrase, "blaming it on ancient figures." I try hard to "be here now" but I quickly lose my way. I find myself living in the past or planning for the future.

Someone, some member of the body of Christ, is being put to death just out of our sight and hearing. It's so easy to pretend we don't know.
