Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. FRIDAY, March 26

2 Corinthians 4:1-12. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

A teacher stopped suddenly and turned upon the class with the question: "What is good about the Good News?"

We stammered and hemmed and hawed. The goodness of the gospel can be veiled. Water is good to the thirsty. Bread is good to the hungry. Relief is good to the sufferer. Freedom is good to the prisoner. Love is good to the lonely. Deliverance is good to the perishing. But to whom is the gospel good?

Here is the main work of the church. We must make known the Good News. We must realize that people are thirsty, hungry, in pain, imprisoned, lonely, perishing.

Christ says, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent" (John 6:29). The moment we believe, we recognize how good is the gospel. When we have what is good, we want to give it to others. We preach by word, act, and life. "For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord" (2 Corinthians 4:5). (1941)

God save me from the god of this world, so that I might turn and be healed

Written by Steve Doutt,

I had to read this meditation multiple times to get the connection between the reading from 2 Corinthians and the meditation. I went to my bible to read the context and found a marginal note that I had scribbled next to this verse directing me to John 12 :40 were the writer of the Gospel quotes Isaiah 53 :1 . After navigating through the visions in Isaiah I came back to this meditation and was filled with light, hope and purpose. Who can I find today to tell the Good News.
Tell us what the Good News is!!!

The writer needs to tell us in his words what he would say is good about the Good News; otherwise he cannot do the work of the Church.
