Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. FRIDAY, September 16

1 Corinthians 3:16-23. Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age; you should become fools so that you may become wise.

As I write this, there are three college diplomas and several awards all nicely framed and hanging on the wall behind my desk. The walls of my study are lined with books. With a touch of my computer keyboard, I’m in cyberspace (wherever that is). I am very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to study and learn. They have served me well.

Now I learn from different teachers, and few of them are by my efforts.

My young grandson teaches me the wonder of seeing with new eyes without knowing the dictionary meaning. Hummingbirds feeding on a tree in my neighbor’s yard (yes, lots of them, together!) showed me a new glimpse of the glory of God. A Jewish mother, with eyes gleaming, talked of her daughter’s wedding in Israel as I recalled my daughter’s wedding a year ago—and we were one. At a recent funeral, I sat behind three young men, one a Muslim, one a Jew, and one a Christian, all pallbearers mourning the same friend.

I am just beginning to learn. I hope you are, too.

Written by Bonnie Strickland,

Pondering on the thought that it seems to take us so long (a lifetime?) to finally figure out what are the truly important things we need to learn.

Written by Mary kier,

So beatifully put!
I have to remind myself that when people judge me or tell me what I "should" do,to take it with a grain of salt.
The Holy Spirit will guide me In all aspects of my life. I would like to see a human create anything as beautiful and amazing as a humming bird!

Written by E. Linda Cushner,

I have been educated in the Medical Sciences and have worked in this field for many years. I have seen new life and have experienced the death of loved ones and friends.
My grandmother, however, planted a seed when I was a little girl and I have to come to realize over the years that nothing, not even all our scientific work could exist without our Lord. He gave us knowledge and has allowed us and even encouraged our desire to learn and study but we are never to forget the Master.
All is a gift from Him. The earth that we live on, however we may think that it it came to be, is a gift from Him.
Our children, our families, our brothers and sisters all over this world are gifts from Him and provide us with opportunities to cultivate and spread the knowledge and love of God.
Perhaps this is the beginning of "wisdom".
