FRIDAY, September 2

James 4:13—5:6. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Time is a precious gift that is easily and often wasted. Have you ever been surprised to read a beloved name on the obituary page and realize, with great regret, that you put off for too long a call or visit to stay in touch and say, “I care?”

How often do you notice a drooping potted plant that has wilted from lack of water, because you have been too busy?

Do you know the feeling of hearing your doctor say you are diabetic or that you need stronger blood pressure medicine mainly because you’ve let your bathroom scale creep steadily upward? We all pretend that tomorrow is the best day for a new diet.

Time is a precious gift. Even though God promises us eternal life through the love of Christ, our time here and now is fragile and measured. Our yesterdays are memories. Today is our reality. Now is the moment that we have.

Each one of us has an important way to use today, while we can. Let’s do.

God, the master of time, never gives the future. He gives only the present, moment by moment.

Written by ivan williams,

Beautifully stated. Once while traveling in Europe, my wife and i met a couple from Germany, we connected immediately and visited over a couple of glasses of wine. We had a similar discussion about how precious our time on earth is and how quickly it goes by. Our friend quoted "Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a Gift, that's shy they call it "The Present".
Time Wasted Is Lost Forever!

Written by emeline,

Thanks to today's writer. Time is a very precious commodity, something we should always cherish. Today, I fondly remember the precious life of my dear husband, who was called to his eternal rest two years ago. The times we spent together (twenty-seven)years, bring our life into focus. Take time for each other. Use time wisely. In doing so, you will have no regret. Thank God for the gift of time!

Written by Sharon,

In reading James, the message is not abouttime (an earthly measure) but about God (an infinite creator). It is not the gift of time that God gave us, but the gift of life.

Too often I dwell on the past and worry about the future instead of living in the precious present moment.
Living each day as God wants us to

Written by Rick,

Important to remember that time goes by quickly and we don't know when our time here on earth will be over. Live each day as God wants us to live in his service. Thanks to all for your witness!
Leap, by Brian Doyle

Written by Steve Doutt,

As I read this meditation I remembered the poem "Leap" by Brian Doyle, about the people leaping out of the World Trade Center towers on September 11th.

As I prepare myself to attend the "One Light" memorial service at Los Angeles City Hall next Saturday evening I must fill my heart with love and forgiveness; but, also energize myself to leap into new relationships, "to believe against such evil hourly evidence that love is why we are here" and learn to love my brothers and sisters of all faiths.
