MONDAY, December 5

Psalm 25. To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you; let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

Humility and humiliation are not the same thing. Humility is the absence of pride, arrogance, self-importance. Humility is a vital part of the complex of characteristics we find in the best, most capable and successful people we know. Humility makes for a good listener, a fair-minded decision-maker. Humiliation, on the other hand, destroys self-respect and shrinks the human spirit. The King James translation of this psalm reads, “Let me not be ashamed,” and those words well characterize what’s at issue, here—loss of confidence, spiritual paralysis. The psalmist prays, “Let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.”

There will be enemies, real and figurative, and there will, inevitably, be humiliating circumstances. That’s life. But when we put our trust in the Lord, we need not emerge from those situations humiliated. We may grow more humble, more aware of our own weak- nesses, and more appreciative of our family, friends, and God. But we needn’t be diminished. The humble spirit is larger and more vibrant, whereas the humiliated spirit is crippled.

Written by emeline,

Like a child, be humble in your approach to life. In this way, there is no room for humiliation. Trust God. He is the Source of all goodness!

Very nice meditation. Humm...I know many a child who is not humble! Psalm 25 also states,"Do not remember the sins of my youth." God wants us to mature in integrity and uprightness. The plumb-line is set; thank God for the fullfillment of His promise in Jesus who will give us many an opportunity to make the right choice.
Children are easily humiliated

Written by Junelle,

Many children are easy humiliated, as many have tender spirits. God understands this. Not being humiliated when I am the target and humiliation is the goal is easier said than done. I pray for a clean heart, a pure heart - yet struggle as a child would struggle.
Humility

Written by Mary kier,

Such a rare personality trait in our culture, and close up God.

as a child I grew up with humilitation. It took me years of therapy to find my self-respect. Then as I matured I was empty and found my faith and emptied "myself" to become a vessal of God. I have my own demons or enemies to fight, to keep God in my sights at all time.

I knew of someone who had an alarm watch. He set it to ring for every ten minutes when he would think of God.

I guess we could all use a God watch!
