Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. Since 1935 we have published the quarterly devotional Forward Day by Day, as well as pamphlets, booklets, and books that encourage and nourish people in their lives of prayer and faith.

SATURDAY, January 22 (Vincent)

Ephesians 6:10-24. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Unless you have seen it, you would not believe the pads and tape that a football player binds himself in before going forth to the gridiron wars. In order to stand before the onslaught of the enemy, he covers everything from head to foot. He protects himself well.

Saint Paul advises Christians to do the same as they sally forth to fight the daily wars of life. It works. Every morning, close your eyes and think of the invisible armor you may don to protect yourself this day. A band of truth about your middle, righteousness across your chest, peace wherever your feet go, an aura of faith encircling you, knowledge of God’s saving grace protecting your head, carrying as your weapon the Spirit of Christ which is the Word of God. Of course your weapon is love for Christ who has taught us that this is the only way we can conquer eternally. Make this a part of your morning meditation and see what a difference it makes in your life. (1971)

Written by Steve Doutt,

I will use this in the form of a prayer. I should be able to arrange it to work with my Anglican prayer beads (rosary).
