SATURDAY, July 2

Luke 23:32-43. He saved others; let him save himself if  he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!

The news is sad. An earthquake in Haiti tumbled  buildings into dust. My daughter’s college roommate did not survive. A sweet girl whose boyfriend was about to propose, she was in Haiti on a university trip to help children.

Some earthquake survivors have miraculous stories to tell about being trapped for days but then rescued. They are like the ones the thief referred to in the scripture passage, the ones Jesus previously had healed. But hundreds of thousands of loved ones are like Jesus himself, their life on earth over.

The world we are born into has storms, faults, and disease. Of course we are grateful when we are spared, but we must remember that any reprieve is temporary, even for Jesus. Salvation is not an escape from nature or our bodies. Salvation is a relationship with God. To the thief on the cross who said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom,” Christ replied, “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” In our  dangerous world, seek the kingdom of God.

You are not home yet!

Jul 02, 2011 at 8:10 am

Written by Chris,

An Episcopal priest returning home from a missionary journey, arrived at the station with expectations of being greeted by a number of his congregation, however they had the wrong arrival time. A major celebrity arrived at the same time and was greeted by a huge crowd, cheering, and swept him away in a limo and motorcade. Sitting alone, the priest looked up to God and asked, "Dear Lord, couldn't there have been at least one to welcome me home?". Later sharing this story in his sermon, the priest said, I heard the Lord speak to me, He said, " you are not home yet!". Amen.
Why did God let that happen ?

Written by Mary kier,

I hear many stories of people who are victims of diseases, accidents or mother nature. Always asking how God could allow this? I appreciate this meditation as it so clearly answers.
It is this life we are born into. Even Jesus could not escape the cruelty inherent in the world and ultimately death of his earthly body.

As a sufferer of a chronic illnes it is sometimes hard to watch people go about their lives without illness. But I have come to realize that everyone experiences the hardships of life sooner or later. And death is inevitable (with those taxes) we all are victims of the imperfections of man and earth. By working on our soul--our relationship with God we can overcome all --even death

also as we venture on this lifexwith God it seems we do grow from the bumps which make those mountan top experiences ever more meaningful.
