Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. Since 1935 we have published the quarterly devotional Forward Day by Day, as well as pamphlets, booklets, and books that encourage and nourish people in their lives of prayer and faith.
Revelation 7:9-17. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
We are all members of two families.
We belong to our earthly family. Even in the most wonderful earthly family we encounter brokenness, grief, hurt, and regret. Because of free will, illness, speech without thought, sin and death, we suffer. This is the price we pay for being human, and even with the grace of God we cannot avoid some of these experiences.
But if we are Christians, then we have another family in which we are all the children of God. There is no brokenness, sin, unforgiveness, or pain. Within God's loving arms there is no death. Jesus, our shepherd, leads us to springs of living water--and God wipes away all tears from our eyes. In this family of God, there is a perfection which comes only by being in his presence. (1976)
