Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. Since 1935 we have published the quarterly devotional Forward Day by Day, as well as pamphlets, booklets, and books that encourage and nourish people in their lives of prayer and faith.
1 Corinthians 15:19-26. Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.
Is Jesus alive today? This question is much more vital than "Did he survive the cross?" The answer to this question brings the Easter triumph into the present moment!
How did the disciples know Jesus to be alive on the first Easter Day? Some saw him with their own eyes and recognized him. Some met those who had seen him and believed their words. Others did not have the conviction that he was actually alive until he "showed himself" to them.During today's services many will feel deeply their faith in Christ, some by mingling with believers and others by sitting in silence and letting Christ come in his own way.
Is Jesus alive today? You can answer it for yourself and say with Saint Paul, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (Galatians 2:20). (1943)
