2 Corinthians 12:2-10. For whenever I am weak, then I am strong.
At the time, I felt strong. I had a day off to host dinner for friends. Then my husband needed my help unexpectedly, so I was behind.
I had prayerfully quieted my heart in this rush knowing that these loving friends would understand. How saintly I felt.
When my phone rang, I glanced at the caller ID expecting it to be my friends en route to our country home. Instead, I saw the number of a co-worker.
"It's my day off," I thought. "I don't have time to talk to you." I ignored his rings. What power I felt.
Later, I realized that my co-worker, who also is a friend, may have needed my assistance more than those coming to my home. This thorn dug into my flesh all night until I paid attention to God's nudge: the only way to strengthen my weakness would be to apologize.
My co-worker so easily forgave me that I was strengthened by the idea of apologizing more often when I demonstrate my human weaknesses. How restful is God's grace.
