Forward Movement is an official, non-profit agency of the Episcopal Church whose mission is to create compelling content for Christian living. Since 1935 we have published the quarterly devotional Forward Day by Day, as well as pamphlets, booklets, and books that encourage and nourish people in their lives of prayer and faith.
Luke 7:36-8:3. Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.
Jesus was at table at the home of a Pharisee. A woman known to be a sinner came in, bathed Jesus' feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, kissed and then anointed them with costly ointment. The Pharisee thought Jesus would realize her sinfulness and avoid her. Instead, Jesus pointed out in contrast that the Pharisee had not offered him any water to wash off the dirt. "Her sins...have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love."

How can we live like saints, as the real friends of Jesus? How can we help God's kingdom to come?
A former missionary to China tells of an elderly man who came asking for baptism. The missionary asked why he sought to change his faith. The answer was: "My religion instructs my head; yours makes the feet go."
The secret of the saints is the grateful love that lives to proclaim the great things God has done for us. (1947)
