Galatians 3:23-29. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.
Malcolm Muggeridge, on assignment for a London newspaper, sat for three days inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem trying to begin an article on the church. The first day all he saw was the masses of people pouring into dark, cave-like rooms covered in centuries of soot from the hundreds of candles burning there daily. On the second day he saw the hundreds of candles producing the only light. The third day he looked out around him--and saw the faces of those people who came to be in the place where Jesus died on the cross. This is what he had come to see and write about.
I happened to read this just before a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, so I was prepared for looking into the faces of those I would encounter. We were a small group, going from altar to altar. I, too, watched those faces glowing with love for Christ--faces from the world over and so many types of Christians--and I knew that we were all one in Christ Jesus. (2004)
