SUNDAY, October 30

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13. We proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

Years ago there was a large evangelism conference with several hundred people in attendance. There were workshops and seminars scheduled so that the participants could experience a variety of tools and resources on how to share and spread the faith.

One of the attendees was a young woman named Maria who came from Africa. During one of the workshops at which Maria was present, there was an open forum. Some of those participating knew about Maria and also about the phenomenal growth of Christianity in many parts of Africa, her homeland included. So they asked her how evangelism was done in her country, given how successful it seemed to be there. They wanted to know what tools Africans used to evangelize.

Maria stood up and said hesitantly, “Well, we don’t have workshops and conferences in my country. We are too poor. But what we do is ask one or two Christian couples from one of our villages to go and live in another village that is not Christian. When the people see how our people live, how kind and loving and caring they are, they begin to ask questions. Soon they become Christian as well.”

That’s proclaiming the good news of Christ!

Parishioner's journey of faith

Oct 30, 2011 at 6:58 am

Written by Chris,

Today, I have been asked to share a parishioner's message, in all three services of my church, "my journey of faith". My message will share how I have been called to be God's witness, through the valleys and the blessings. Maria is a wonderful witness and this meditation has given me the theme of my message for this morning. "When people see how we live, through our witnessing and seeing God's love and grace in us, they begin to ask questions. Soon they will become Christian as well". Thank God and the mediation writer for this message today. In Jesus, Amen.

Written by emeline,

Maria's countrymen shows us a most practical way of spreading the Christian Message. It reminds me of an educational ditty that says:

" Tell me and I may remember.
Show me and I will understand."

It tels us that our actions rather than our words best proclaim Who and Whose we are - members of the Body of Christ.

LET US CONTINUE THE CHRISTIAN WALK THROUGH THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS OF LIFE.

Thanks for the example of Maria nad her African counterparts. They may be materially poor, but worth it all in spiritual wealth. Praise be unto God!
