TUESDAY, August 3

Read our Editor's note from the August/September/October 2010 print issue of Forward Day by Day here.

Acts 3:1-11. Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.”

We are healed by going. “Go and show yourselves to the priests,” Jesus told the ten lepers. “Go and do likewise” ended the parable of the Good Samaritan. “Go forth in peace.” Such was the apostolic benediction. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous realize that the principle of going is essential in healing.

The mission of the Christian is to go forth in Christ’s name. When do you plan to take off? Begin in your home, Jerusalem, and then with your neighbors, Samaria, before you serve in the uttermost parts. Discouraging at first? Of course! How few people share our Lord’s wisdom! We will not succeed in every venture; all people may not be able to pay the cost of discipleship. Only from time to time will we be privileged to observe success; ventures started by us are often completed by others.

Discipleship begins by knowing Jesus, develops by showing him, and is fulfilled by going forth. With his courage replacing our timidity, we can demonstrate to others a higher level of life. We have a story to tell. What a tragedy if we should fail to tell it. (1972)

Faith Realized

Aug 03, 2010 at 6:24 am

Written by Stephen,

This meditation reminded me that my faith doesn't depend on how I feel. Even though I don't always feel the power of God, I notice that when confronted with issues of faith or world issues in discussions with others, I express the dynamics of the Gospel just like I gloat over my family. There must be something there.
They'll know we are Christians by our life!

Written by Sam Dowding,

From yesterday's meditation, the phrase "The kingdom is among us today" reminded me of the 23rd Psalm:"... I will fear no evil, for thou art with me." I firmly believe that the Lord is with me always, and He guides me to 'go forth' according to His will. How do I go forth? I much agree with the view that we share our faith more by 'how we LIVE' than by 'what we SAY'. And of course, success that results from sharing my faith is not mine but the Lord's. So I go forth everyday, sometimes to speak of, but at all times to live out, God's blessings, because He is with me.

Written by elizabeth austin,

How many of us are content to stop and rest at knowing Him? The maturational steps to go forward to show and go seem too hard for many. As we model His love and strive to know Him more my prayer is that it be a maturing cycle-
know, show, go and repeat.
