TUESDAY, July 13

Matthew 25:14-30. Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.

A short, heavy man, dressed in a business suit with unpressed trousers was holding the attention of four hundred college students as he talked about Jesus Christ. A square beard did not hide the plainness of his face. Everything about him was subordinate to the impression he made of force, intelligence, and conviction. He was Dwight L. Moody, probably the most powerful Christian of his generation. Many thousands of people learned through him to know and love Jesus Christ.

I remember the thud of Moody's closed fist on the reading desk as he ended his address that night, saying with all the energy that was in him: "I am glad the Lord did not say to anyone: Well done, good and successful servant, but well done, good and faithful servant."

This was one of our Lord's last words on earth. Never mind if you do nothing remarkable for him. He notes your fidelity. Every plodding step you take--one foot before the other--is bringing you into the joy of your Lord. (1944)

Written by Stephen,

Investing does take a lot of faith in the DJ market these days, but investing in the kingdom even more. Faith means investing in people who may not show any return, ever. Investing in my own spiritual life takes time when I would rather be spending time on the things that give an immediate measurable return.

Thank you for that comment, Stephen. I get up at 5:30 each morning so as to have time for prayer. While I usually like getting up at that hour, sometimes I'd rather sleep in. But it's the intentional, regular discipline that makes the difference for me.
