TUESDAY, October 19 (Henry Martyn)

Luke 10:1-16. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, “The kingdom of God has come near to you.”

The kingdom of Nepal, in which Mount Everest and many other high Himalayan peaks are located, is officially a Hindu country. It is against the law to preach conversion to any other religion. However, it is not illegal to heal the sick, to treat lepers, to help the poor, to teach, or to run a model farm. Since the 1950s, Christian missionaries have gone to Nepal to do these things. In that time, because of the way these dedicated men and women have lived and worked, many people have learned about Jesus, and a number have become Christians.

The most effective form of evangelism is one’s way of life. Other people are more impressed by what we do than by what we preach. Pray that you might live your life in such a way that others may be attracted to Christ. (1983)

Preach the gospel always.
If necessary, use words

Words

Written by Stephen,

Words are important. In fact they are action. They change the chemicals in us causing various feelings good and bad. They also direct us. Some get discouraged when they try to share their faith with words and they seem to fall on deaf ears. So we avoid it. Some people are more visual. Showing is the strongest way to speak to them. Actions are meaning. They change the chemicals and can heal. Either way we need to change the chemicals that release the Holy Spirit and give life. We live in a culture that is skeptical of words and actions. We better hear the Gospel ourselves first and get our chemicals changed before we can see Christ make change through us.
Words cause physiological changes in us?

I find this to be a curious observation and do not recollect ever having heard that before. Could you please amplify on that Stephen?

Actions do speak louder than words, as trite as that may sound. Talk the talk/walk the walk. I believe that it is the responsibility of faith believers to reflect, to the best of their ability, the positive natures of the creators which they profess to have faith in.

Written by elizabeth austin,

I think that this is what modern society is asking of the church at large. Where are your actions. As Christ said, when did I see you feed the hungry? Clothe the poor? Give the clerk at the grocery store a kind smile and patient perspective? Not snap back at an angry word? Not render a judgemental comment at church? Pray for your co-workers? For me, clean ALL THE DISHES my children have left piled in the sink without a vindictive comment about it later. For the kingdom of God is at hand. I appreciate the accountability reminders. As the prayers say, "for what we have done and what we have left undone.."
what Jesus Did

Written by Amy Cain Newsom,

Seems to me that the word spread about Jesus in the days he walked this earth, based on his actions, things he did, it was his actions of healing etc. that made people all the more eager to hear what he had to say, and still they only seemed to get what he was saying a small percentage of the time, even his own disciples were clueless half the time, it is any wonder he so marveled at someone who seemed to get him instead of was clamoring for his attention out of self-interest?! Yet did he even seem appreciate and reward some of that (self-interest) like the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15, because she matched his answer and showed some humility , and unswerving love for her child instead of righteous indignation of her ego, anyway not to go off topic of the Luke passage but I guess what I am saying is actions do get attention and can coax people beyond their self-interest to listen to words.
