WEDNESDAY, April 14

John 15:1-11. I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

Because we are spiritually short-sighted, we often miss the incarnations of God in the commonplace events and people about us. We miss the glory that shines out of pain, the patience that illumines discouragement, the courage that radiates from failure, the faith that makes the faces of ordinary folk glow.

In order to welcome God in whatever work she was doing about the house, a sincere and whole-hearted woman composed the following meditation:

"When opening the door, I pray thee, Lord, to open the door of my heart that I may receive thee, Lord, within.

"When washing clothes, I pray thee, Lord, to wash my heart, and make it pure as snow.

"When sweeping the floor, I pray thee, Lord, to sweep my heart from all evil, and make it clean.

"When receiving or sending a letter, I pray thee, Lord, to give me more faith that I may hold more constant communication with thee.

"When lighting the lamp, I pray thee, Lord, to let thy true light shine within my heart, and make me in all that I do to be kind and good like a lamp which lightens others." (1955)

Abide in Him

Written by Steve Doutt,

Thank You God, for this life.
This meditation reminds me that the Good News is also about our lives, and the celebration of life. Thank You for Your commandments God; and, thank You Jesus, Messiah, for explaining them to me.

Written by Mary kier,

This meditation brings me to the heart of my faith. Looking for the incarnation of god in our daily lives.
His omniscience is exemplified. I liked the reminder that he is also with us during the tough times and usually the result of these growing pains is a new and refreshed sense of self and God. I'll never forget once when I saw this very elderly slightly disheveled man trying to open a door, I ran to his assistance and then beauty of the face he showed me felt like a glimpse of God truly God is every where, if we take the time to look!
