WEDNESDAY, July 1 Canada Day (Canada)

Psalm 119:145-176. Early in the morning I cry out to you.

On the first day of the week I had set aside to begin writing these meditations, I was up at 5:30 a.m. My plan was to do chores, get cleaned up, attend  Morning Prayer at my church in town, then return to the country for a full day of silent meditation  and inspired writing.

But about fifteen minutes short of town, I had to stop on a dark, two-lane country road after a tire  blew. Help came in the form of my husband, and another thirty minutes had me on the road--not to Morning Prayer but to the tire store.

As I meandered the winding road toward town, I pondered how the morning schedule had similarly turned, first this way then that. One unfamiliar with our country road might anxiously anticipate what  unknown events and places lie ahead. But today's psalm also reassures, "You, O Lord, are near at hand."

The nearness of the Lord for me today would be the waiting room at the tire shop where I could read the scriptures away from distractions at home and meditate on what words would follow this month. "Great is your compassion, O Lord."

O Canada

Written by James West,

Official Lyrics of "O Canada!"

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Written by jeff,

This morning I was in my basement stuffing dirty clothes into the washer and having one of my "wits end" crying moments...I suffer from CFIDS and Fibromyalgia. I returned upstairs and picked up my Bible and Day By Day booklet to read the daily meditation and scripture...and to think that some see life as random events...early in this morning I cried out, and was reminded of the unknowns, the twists and turns of life that can render us "at wit's end"...yet there is always one constant, the only constant...God's presence and love...Peace

Written by Schley Cox,

I have been a travelling salesperson for a number of years. I have a lot of time available for prayer since I spend many more hours waiting to see a prospect or customer than actually talking to them. I usually carry in my briefcase either Forward Movement's "Hour by Hour", or Church Publishing's "Daily Office Book." Now I have a tiny notebook computer which I use not only for work but also the online "Forward Day by Day" meditations and the online Daily Office. Once while waiting for a repair in a tire store I found myself sitting next to a Catholic priest who was also praying the Office. When we both had finished we had an excellent conversation about prayer and our mutual traditions. Waiting rooms can be a place to wait also upon the Lord.

I found the devotionals for April especially helpful. I am devotional leader for ECW at my church and am always looking for inspirational material. I hope this pastor will become a daily contributor to our fine publication.

Written by Kathleen Thompson,

I've been reading Forward Day by Day for nearly 20 years but never before have I seen the ability to comment on the reading. This is going to be terrific for me - I often feel as if I have something to say after the reading, and yet no forum to post. THANK YOU!

I have marked up my Bible for years, and was an elected official for 8 years.
Reading over Psalm 119, esp. verses 153 and afterward, I have jotted many notes in the margin about political opponents who used "dirty tricks" in their campaigns against me.

All this reminds me 1) I'm glad I am out of politics, and 2) I am so glad that God was there to hold my hand in those very difficult times.

He always did, and I trust, always will.
