WEDNESDAY, June 15 Ember Wednesday

Luke 20:27-40. For they no longer dared to ask him another question.

It is unfortunate that so many people are afraid to ask questions regarding our faith. Many feel that to ask questions is to doubt and that doubt is a sin. That is simply untrue.

This passage does not chronicle the questions of  those who are truly seeking to understand, but of those who are seeking to trick our Lord into misspeaking,  hoping to expose him as a fraud. The issue in this passage is the intent of the question, not questioning  itself. Any time the gospels tell us that a person approached our Lord with a heartfelt inquiry that expressed a soul truly seeking God, we are also told  that the person was received and answered and taught.

Questions and doubts are not the opposite of faith; many times they are the seeds of faith. God is ultimately dialogical. The pondering of our hearts, the wonderings of our minds, the questions of our faith are very often God beginning a conversation with us in order to lead us to a deeper knowledge and love of him.

Written by Mary kier,

Thank you for this meditation. My doubts led me back to Christ.. They were so strong that I had to read, question and finally opened my heart to a relationship with God.
When I was in my twenties I had so much doubt about God, and religion. However I felt his presence in nature and music and sought these out. But it wasn't enough. Finally I got very sick and was on the verge of losing everything when my mother came and called her church. They helped me get on my feet. As a result I thought I should attend services. I was soon able to translate some of the language used and realized the Lord's prayer said it all. I since have a spiritul director and try to be what God intends for me.

Written by Sam,

…many times they are the seeds of faith.” WOW! I could not agree more with today’s author. For me, the questioning and the doubts are the smelting furnace in which the impurities are burnt off, thus refining and strengthening my faith.

This entire last para is really inspirational to me, especially “…God beginning a conversation with us in order to lead us to a deeper knowledge and love of him.” Thank you for the timely reminder and reinforcement for my journey.
