WEDNESDAY, June 8

Ezekiel 11:14-25. And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had shown me.

Ezekiel had experiences with God quite unlike those of most of us. He heard God speak clearly. He saw visions of angels and spiritual beings and realms of reality that defy description. Today we read that he told his brethren exiles all that the Lord had showed him. How do you think they responded?

This is the last verse of chapter eleven. The first verse of chapter twelve may not follow this chapter chronologically, but I think it gives us a good hint of their response. We are told that God spoke to Ezekiel of the people being a rebellious house. Apparently  they did not receive Ezekiel’s words warmly. Are we any different? Those of us with our feet firmly planted on the ground often struggle with understanding others whose spirits seem to soar through an ether we do not know. But the Bible has characters of both stripes.

Logic is not alien to God any more than miracles are. Our struggle is to not reject what we do not understand but to discern where God may be speaking, moving, acting, and leading, especially when we are uncomfortable.

Written by Steve Doutt,

I have trouble sharing with others that the Lord has shown me something. I tend to express it as random thought to see how others react.

Written by Terri,

Despite everything I know or have heard about the motley crew of characters to whom God often entrusted his words and work here on Earth (one or two of them I especially identify with), I am still reluctant about proclaiming when I think God has spoken to ME. My sense of unworthiness threatens to resound louder than God's message. But, as His direction or presence plays out in a situation, I am compelled to share what I perceive - eagerly giving Him the credit because I know my own discernment in itself would not have brought me to it.
Having said all of that, still God never disappoints me, never stops speaking to me, never moves away from me or out of my life. Although I'm pretty sure He must shake His head at my self-doubt regularly. Wow I love Him.

Written by Tom,

I wonder if my meditation and the responses would make any sense in other cultures or at other times. My sense is that we in the highly rational, scientific, post-modern West are somewhat stymied and limited in our perceptions. My understanding is that our reluctance to believe in, or to question the validity of, transcendent and/or spiritual experiences places us outside the norm of most cultures. To paraphrase Paul, we all see through a glass darkly; we always have only a glimpse or partial view of reality but I have to remind myself quite often that there is more to reality than just what I perceive as real.
