Dear friends in Christ,

The Good Book Club is happening right now! This is a regular (free!) offering from Forward Movement to invite people across the church into reading scripture together. And it’s not too late to join.
This summer, we’re looking together at letters of St. Paul. At the moment, we’re doing a deep dive into the Second Letter to the Corinthians. There’s so much to discover here, with a great deal of relevance to our time, to our church, and to our lives.
Reading the Bible is vital for Christians for several reasons. Among others, the Bible teaches us about God and his love for us. The Bible shows us how God has graciously dealt with his people in the past, and those deeds of old are promises of God’s future involvement in our lives. The Bible reminds us that the world is, well, not about us!
It’s also good to read the Bible because some of our ideas of what it says may not be what it actually says! A few years ago, I led a reluctant group through a study of one of St. Paul’s letters. At the start, one person complained, “I just don’t like Paul. He’s mean.” We pressed on together. By the end of our study, people were saying, “Paul has really great things to say, and I wish I had known this earlier!”
It’s never too late. If you’ve never read the Bible on your own or attended a regular Bible study, I encourage you to give it a try. Read along with the Good Book Club by following the reading list here, or sign up for weekly reflection emails through the end of July. You can also join our online Bible study on Thursdays at 3pm Eastern time (click here and scroll down for tomorrow’s link). Or take part in whatever Bible study is offered in your church!
Yours faithfully,

Scott Gunn
Executive Director
